Architect vs Doctor vs Serial Killer vs 6 Year Old

Architect vs Doctor vs Serial Killer vs 6 Year Old

Most of us receive handwritten notes everyday, or write them ourselves; a doctor note for a prescription you need, a nice holiday card from your small relative or a personal murder note from a serial killer.. okay hopefully not the last one. Our writing can tell many things about our selves and has it’s own “personality.” Graphology is the study of handwriting, especially when regarded as an expression of the writer’s character, personality, abilities, etc. Check this website out of Anna Koren where she shares her knowledge on graphology from different people.

For this week’s post, we thought it would be fun and interesting to see different types of handwriting from different… professions, lets just say.. and analyzing them with the different traits.  Even though there are many different traits that we could use to compare to the handwriting, let’s try and keep it simple by using the  13 traits in this article.

According to the article, some things to look for are:

  1. Size of the writing
  2. Spacing of letters or words
  3. Pen Pressure
  4. How the “i” is dotted
  5.  Legibility of signature
  6. Slanting of handwriting
  7. How the “t” is crossed
  8. Loop in the lowercase “l”
  9. Hooks in the “y”
  10. Rounded vs pointed letters
  11. Quickness in writing
  12. Consistency in sentence

Okay! Ready to check out some writing samples and see what we can find!? Let’s do it.

Let’s start young, even though children’s handwriting isn’t fully developed, let’s see if we can find some distinct characteristics besides misspelling.

6 Year Old Handwriting

6 Year Old Handwriting

After looking at both of these examples, what did you see? Something similar they share is the text size being very large. Although they are probably using the lines as a guide, large font suggests outgoing personalities. There is a difference between the letters in the right photo being more rounded than the one of the left which signals creativity and artistic ability.

Interesting… Let’s continue on and see what we can see in doctor’s writing.. if we can read anything at all!

Doctor Handwriting

Doctor handwriting is known for its illegibility, but let’s see what characteristics are shown from these examples (and that are definitely not that bad). They both seem to have soft pressure which indicates empathy and sensitivity. The note on the right shows the “y”s with a slender hook which suggests someone who is more selective with whom they allow close. Now you can check out you’re doctor note before scheduling you’re follow up visit!

Now, let’s check out the handwriting of two famous serial killers and see what personality traits we can find… and take note of…

Ted Bundy Handwriting

Jeffery Dahmer Handwriting

After looking at these creepy notes from them, what traits did you pick up on? I started with the signature, I noticed that both of them have very legible signatures which is a sign of confidence and comfort in one’s skin.. makes sense. Another I noticed was the right slant in Ted Bundy’s writing on the left. This means he liked meeting and working with new people.. I’m sure he did. Also it appears the Ted Bundy’s note is writing more quickly than Jeffery Dahmer. Quicker writing suggests lack of patience while slower writing is self reliant and methodical. On your next date, look at how they sign the check  or have them write you a letter before going back to their place.

So now that we know handwriting can tell a lot about a person, let’s check out the writing of our very own architects here at Hayne Architects!

Architect Handwriting-Matthew Stokes

Architect Handwriting- Robbin Hayne

Although they are written very differently they both display similar characteristic traits. For starters, they both dot their “i”s  high which means they have an active imagination, I mean who would have thought! The “t”s in Robbin’s note on the right are crossed higher up meaning he aims high and has many goals… and deadlines! Matthew’s writing on the left has more of a heavy pressure indicating commitment. Good thing there wasn’t a huge slant change in their writing because that’s a sign they are lying!

Well, I am sure glad I am able to type our posts…hope you found these comparisons as interesting as I did!
