Here at Hayne, we’ve been on deadlines for some of our commercial projects. Submittals have been interesting, to say the least! We thought we would share a couple of our experiences…
Scene:
Hayne Architects is trying to complete a project submittal for a large scale commercial project at an undisclosed jurisdiction somewhere in the United States of America.

Hi [insert plan checker’s name here], I wanted to review the submittal requirements for [insert project name here]. Are you only accepting hard copies or have you set up a digital submittal option due to COVID-19 concerns?
Plan Checker
You may submit hard copies or you can submit digitally via email. A digital submittal of all plans must be sent individually with the permit number identified.
Wow. That’s great that we can submit digitally, but this one project is associated with three different permit numbers. The drawings will be the same. Can we send one file and identify the three different permit numbers in the email?
A digital submittal of all plans must be sent individually with the permit number identified.
Oh, ok. Thanks.
Hayne Architects prepares the project resubmittal drawings and posts them to a DropBox folder. Hayne emails the folder link in three different emails associated with the three different permit numbers.
Hi Hayne Architects. We received three separate emails with the same drawing link. Are all the files the same? Or do I need to download all of the zip folders?
Hi [insert plan checker’s name here]! Glad that you received all the submittals. All of the drawing files are the same.
Oh. Ok. So why did you send them three times?
You said that each permit number had to be sent separately.
