23 Jun Favorite Apps for Designers
Let’s face it, the digital world is progressing faster each day, and new apps for our devices are constantly being made. Some of these apps we have found very helpful in our daily office life. What is also pretty awesome about these apps is that they free (for the most part).. and everybody likes free. Check out the list below of some of our must-have apps:
This app is very helpful when needing to quickly scan parts of a drawings or sketches especially if you are on the go! It flattens and sharpens the image to be easier to read in an email or off of a device screen. It is easy to use and has a good editor to crop or change the color of the scan. Another cool feature is that you have the ability to save it in different formats.
DropBox is very handy and used often in our office. It becomes very helpful when needing to share files with clients, consultants or even each other in the office. Being able to share a link to one specific folder is helpful when needing to send drawing sets to print but the file is too large for the email message… because these drawing pakage sets can get pretty heavy!
Pinterest, in our office, is used as an idea builder tool. By creating a board and sharing it with a client, both can see the ideas of what each other are thinking. This is also useful within the office by creating a folder for each project and the team can collaboratively pin materials or designs they like for that project.
Photos are helpful in many different areas of the office, documenting a situation, capturing a job site condition or just snapping a fun moment with the office gang. Posting photos of things going on in the office is also great to show potential clients, friends and the public that you have an active office and it can bring out your personality. Filters and photo editing on Snapseed are easy to use, making it quick to post fun edited images.
Gotta get somewhere?… a job site, the city to submit or back to the office… Waze is a great app to use for getting somewhere for the first time or trying to avoid heavy traffic on an everyday commute. If you live in the Greater Los Angeles Area then you are probably very familiar with the traffic conditions that we drive through everyday. Even though I know how to get to work, everyday is something new on the road with construction or accidents and Waze is very helpful in finding smoother less congested routes!
This might seem like an obvious one, but is probably the most used so it is worth being on the list! The mail app is very useful in our office to communicate to clients and each other. It is also a great way to keep everyone in the loop on projects even if I may not be working on them. This mail app also ties into the Calendar app where we can share the same calendar to keep track of important dates, meetings, deadlines and people’s vacations or whereabouts. Having the mail app on your mobile device makes it easy for me to forward information or respond to something that urgent even when I am not in the office.
Hope you enjoyed some of our apps, let us know some of your favorites or often used apps!
