The HAYNE Way: As-Built Template

The HAYNE Way: As-Built Template

Hello everyone!

So let’s talk about that thing that makes everyone a little bit uncomfortable.. As-built drawings! In our office we sometimes get projects that don’t have current drawing information or it is older which could mean it is not accurate and here@Hayne we like accurate! Since we don’t have much information, such as room layout or locations, the drawing can get a bit  overwhelming with loads of information and trying to quickly get them down. We are constantly trying to think of ways to make the next time more efficient and better. One thing we talked about was creating a template to help keep the dimension sheet cleaner and easier to read.. because believe me this sheet can get messy! Check out below my first pass as setting up a As-built template go package!

To start, I looked up the property address to see what basic information was available online. Since this project is in Ventura, I used Ventura Maps to locate the property.

After clicking on the property, additional information is available. Using this screen as an underlay in Auto CAD I will be able to create base drawings to take and write dimensions on. We also have zoning template sheets for each project to understand the restraints and limits of the property. Clicking on the additional information link sends me here:

From here I am able to get details about the lot, building and the parcel map. Now time to make my base drawings!

(Note that this is just an example and is not the actual property in screenshots)

Now that I have the building outline and some lot context I can use these to generate floor and site plan layouts.

Another problem I came across before was running out room on the dimension sheet trying to input door and window dimensions or cabinet heights, for example. So I created a separate door and window sheet template to help, take a look below!

These are some of our tools to help make the As-built process better and more efficient. The template is still being worked on and will probably continue to adjust after each use, but it’s a start and can only get better from here!

Let us know what tips or templates you use to make your office run more smoothly!
