Flying Nun, Malibu California
Robbin and Hillary Hayne’s remodel and addition to their family home, playfully named The Flying Nun, honors the expressive roofline of original architect Harry Gesner while seamlessly expanding the space. Adding two bedrooms, they enriched the home’s character by refinishing the wood floors, cladding the brick fireplace in stone, and introducing custom furnishings that enhance both function and views. At the heart of the design, the great room—anchored by its striking fireplace and framed by soaring two-story windows—became a warm and inviting gathering space. Hillary’s signature Bohemian Chic aesthetic infused the home with layered textures, eclectic charm, and a soulful sense of place. Unfortunately, the home was completely lost in the Woolsey Fire in 2018.
