Sea Level, Malibu California
Originally built in 1988, this post-modern beachfront home in Malibu has transformed into a contemporary, open-concept retreat that fully embraces its breathtaking oceanfront setting. The remodel focused on maximizing natural light, enhancing indoor-outdoor living, and refining the architectural language to create a harmonious dialogue with the coastal landscape. Expansive sliding glass doors connect the interior living spaces to the beachfront terrace, allowing for uninterrupted ocean views while flooding the home with natural light. The reconfigured floor plan eliminates compartmentalized spaces, replacing them with an open layout that enhances sightlines and encourages effortless movement between the kitchen, dining, and living areas. A significant addition to the home is the accessible rooftop deck, designed to offer a private escape with panoramic views of the Pacific. The interiors, designed by Nathan Turner, draw inspiration from the natural palette of the ocean, incorporating soft blues, seafoam greens, and sandy neutrals to create a serene and inviting atmosphere. Turner’s approach balances casual elegance with coastal comfort, integrating linen-upholstered furnishings, handwoven rugs, and natural materials to reflect the relaxed spirit of Malibu living. This remodel honors the essence of its oceanfront setting while redefining the home for modern living, resulting in a light, bright, and effortlessly sophisticated beachfront sanctuary—perfect for gathering with family and friends, savoring ocean breezes, and taking in the ever-changing beauty of the Pacific.
