Project Update: Construction Progress in Port Townsend, WA

Root Cellars, Concrete Walls & Moody Modern Vibes in the Making

We’re thrilled to share a construction update from our remote new build project in Port Townsend, Washington—a two-story single-family residence perched on a bluff lot surrounded by towering evergreens. This home is designed to embody a moody modern mountain aesthetic—equal parts grounded and dramatic, with strong connections to its natural setting.

At this early stage, foundational work is well underway. The root cellar foundations have been poured, and formwork is now in place for the next major milestone: concrete walls. We’re using Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) construction—a system of interlocking foam blocks that stay in place after the concrete is poured. Not only does this streamline the construction process, but it also significantly boosts the insulation value of the structure. It’s a smart choice for an energy-efficient home in the variable Pacific Northwest climate.

Because we’re not local to the site, our construction administration looks a little different. We’re staying closely connected to both the contractor and the homeowner through a steady stream of RFIs, site photos, videos, and scheduled calls. Clear communication and mutual trust are key—this collaborative, tech-enabled process helps ensure that everything stays on track even from afar.

We’re eagerly anticipating the next big phase: framing. That’s when the full scale and form of the house will begin to take shape, and it will be the perfect time for our first boots-on-the-ground site visit.

Stay tuned—we’ll continue to share progress updates as this beautiful bluffside home comes to life.
