Thankful for: Tablescapes

Thankful for: Tablescapes

Here at Hayne we are safely gathering with our family and friends to celebrate the holidays, and that means we have spent time thinking about our table set up… and when I say we… I really mean me.  (Bianca you need some candlesticks!) So, with that in mind we reached out to the master, Hillary Hayne.

Tablescaping 101

One.  Be a Maximalist (More is More)

As you saw previously in our Dressing up a Space post, Hillary Hayne is a maximalist.  More is always more, and this means she has a multitude of potential table decorations scattered throughtout her house ripe for the picking.

Two.  Set Your Scene.

You need to determine your backdrop.  Which table will you be eating at?  Indoors our outdoors? What direction will you be facing?

Ambiance, ambiance, ambiance.

Three.  Go shopping in your own house.

See step one above.

Walk through your house and start collecting items to create your tablescape.  A collection of small plaster busts from the 19th century (check, check), a collection of candlesticks (variable sizes and shapes are a must), a duck decoy statue (I mean come on!), various glass containers, and so on and so on.

Don’t forget to grab your plates and silverware too!  And, if you are a maximalist like Hillary, you will have a variety to choose from!

Four.  Set it Up.

Start arranging your treasures on the table, symetry is not required, but balance is…

Some of the items you picked will work and some will not, don’t be afraid to go back though your collections if something is not “feeling” right.  Set your place setting.

Five.  Instagram it!

Enjoy!  Snap some photos and get ready to feast with your family and friends!

Stay safe & Happy Thanksgiving!
